Winter Blues…or is it?

Have you ever felt “sad” more during the winter months than you do “normally”? It could be that you suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder. I know I do!

Today is the day. Today we’ll have darkness an hour earlier. Today is the beginning of 4 LONG month of seasonal depression.

NO ONE, and especially not me, would suspect the I would suffer from any type of depression…and it’s just been in the last few years that I realized it was there…but only during the darkness of the winter months!

Normally I’m one of the most positive and uplifting people you’ll ever meet – and I still project that during the winter in public…no one wants to be around a Debbie Downer! But inside my head, there’s a whirlwind of emotions of me just trying to stay my normal “happy” self.

The last 4 winter (after my mother passes away) I have self medicated with alcohol to make it through the time change and all that goes along with it. That is a post of it’s own, believe me !

This year, 2022, I have had any alcohol and am determined to make it through the rest of the year with prayer, eating right, and using supplements and other natural ways of combating my S.A.D. Just to give you an idea of what Season Affective Disorder is, here are some of the symptoms…

▪️ Oversleeping and increased fatigue/low energy are key indicators
▪️ Changes in appetite, especially a sudden craving for high-carb foods
▪️ Weight gain
▪️ Trouble concentrating
▪️ Increased desire to be alone
▪️ Less energy

Motivation can be difficult to muster up, which can translate to…
▪️ lack of productivity at work
▪️ decreases in social activity
▪️ instances of anxiety
▪️ problems sleeping or difficulty falling and staying asleep

Last winter I made this “Sunshine Roller” It really helped with seasonal gloom, occasional anxiousness, and unhappy feelings! I’ll be making another roller today and throughout the rest of the winter season!

I “recycled” a 15 ml lemon bottle and since lemon was in the recipe, I didn’t need to wash out the bottle – all I did was pull off the label and put on a roller top! The oils in this roller are powerhouses! It supports almost all of my body systems!!!!

Here is the recipe in case you want to try it (just be sure to use quality oils)

18 drops Ylang Ylang – emotional balance and cardiovascular support
18 drops Bergamot – emotional Balance, great for skin, digestive support
15 drops Inner Child – GREAT blend for your emotions
15 drops Lemon – digestive, immune, and respiratory support

Some other great options to help with Seasonal Affective Disorder are:

1. Therapy lamp

2. Dawn Simulator

3. Extra Vitamin D3
